In addition to the fundrace watch on the sidebar, I have added a boone watch, keeping track of his march towards a guaranteed $9 million for 2005 and the honor of being the largest thorn in the Mariner's offseason's side. Though I am uncertain as to the exact clause that triggers his extension - people around the blogsphere have said 450 at-bats, 500 plate appearances, 450 plate appearances - and the print media can't even get it straight - the PI reported in 2002, when he signed the contract, that it was
500 pa's, though now John Hickey reports, whilst inventing a new term, that the 4th years vests by reaching 450 "
plate trips," I will be listing both at-bats and plate appearances, and, if I can figure out how to calculate it, "plate trips." I solemnly swear to try my darnedest to update it every day.
Edit: a Google search has turned up only John Hickey, Canadian bloggers, and one article from an Arizona newspaper as using "plate trips" in regards to baseball. Therefore, it in entirely possible that John Hickey did not in fact invent the term, and if he did, it was years ago.
